In an era defined by technological breakthroughs, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been seamlessly woven into our everyday existence, reshaping our routines, interactions and perspectives.

We have AI virtual assistants guiding our tasks to tailored recommendations shaping our choices as AI’s influence reverberates globally, touching every aspect of modern living.

As AI evolves, its significance in daily life deepens. As we explore the multifaceted dimensions of AI’s impact, we see its unique applications, implications, and the delicate balance between convenience and concerns.

Many are unaware of the prevalence of AI in their daily interactions with technology. According to a 2021 HubSpot survey, 63% of respondents didn’t realize they were using AI.

Examples of common AI applications include Siri, Apple’s personal assistant, which uses machine learning to improve speech recognition. Similarly, Gmail employs AI to filter spam and offer Smart Reply options. Companies like Tesla integrate AI into self-driving technology, while e-commerce giant Amazon uses AI to drive its recommendation system, accounting for a significant portion of sales. Other examples include Google Now, Netflix, Google Translate, Facebook, Google Maps, and Spotify, all leveraging AI to personalize user experiences and enhance functionality.

From bustling tech hubs like Silicon Valley to dynamic metropolises like Shanghai, AI’s reach transcends borders, fueling innovation, productivity, and efficiency worldwide.

Closer to home, the Philippines embraces AI with enthusiasm with Filipino startups up to established mega enterprises leveraging AI to revolutionize industries, from healthcare to agriculture, while fostering economic growth and innovation.

Notably, the country’s IT and Business Process Management industry spearheads AI integration, exemplified by the establishment of an AI Council aimed at enhancing generative AI skills among workers.

Aiming to boost productivity and efficiency by responsibly harnessing AI’s potential, the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) said the country’s BPO industry can maintain its competitiveness amidst the challenges and opportunities presented by an AI-driven world.

Recognizing the potential disruption of generative AI, the industry seeks to collaborate with learning academies and associations like the Analytics and Artificial Intelligence Association of the Philippines (AAP) to upskill workers in programming, data science, analytics, and AI ethics.

Generative AI has the potential to increase productivity for contact center agents by 14 percent, while studies show a growing acceptance and integration of AI into daily tasks among Filipinos.

AI has also become a national agenda.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s proactive stance during a November 2023 roundtable meeting with tech stakeholders in San Francisco further emphasized the Philippines’ readiness for AI adoption.

Highlighting the National AI Strategy’s objectives, President Marcos underscored AI’s potential to uplift lives, drive productivity, and bolster competitiveness. This forward-thinking approach underscores the Philippines’ dedication to leveraging AI’s benefits through collaborative partnerships and strategic initiatives.

“Currently, the Philippines is embracing this future of AI with the crafting of the National AI Strategy that seeks to augment the existing skillset of Filipino talents with AI. This strategy also aims to position the Philippines as a Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence,” Marcos said.

“We believe AI can uplift the lives of Filipinos, increase the productivity of our enterprises, and enhance the competitiveness of our economy. And I’m certain our discussions here today will help the Philippines steer our roadmaps in a direction that maximizes the skills of Filipinos and help them achieve their aspirations,” he added.

As AI becomes ingrained in daily life, its transformative impact is undeniable. While offering unparalleled convenience and efficiency, it also poses ethical, privacy, and employment challenges.

Navigating this AI-driven landscape demands vigilance, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to harnessing its potential for the collective good.
