THE Ombudsman indicted on Thursday an ex-Local Water Utilities Administration official for unliquidated travel expenses five years ago.

Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales directed the filing of charges against former administrator Daniel Landingin for violation of Article 218 of the Revised Penal Code over failure to account for cash advances of P57,698.94.

The funds covered the incidental expenses of his official travel to Singapore in March 2011.

The Ombudsman said Landingin was only able to fully account for the pre-travel expense of P1,500 but the amount of P57,698.94 remained unliquidated 60 days after his return to the Philippines.

Landingin was also notified as a final demand pursuant to CoA Circular 2012-004 to liquidate the funds by Jan. 31, 2013. Despite the demand, he failed to account for the funds.
