Officials of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Federal Aviation Administration – Air Traffic Organization (FAA-ATO) have met and discussed collaboration to improve air traffic management in the country.
CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio said the collaboration agreement also aimed to explore best practices and technological advancements for System Wide Information Management and procedure design support.
The meeting, held at the CAAP Central Office in Pasay City last April 8, was attended by FAA-ATO Senior Representatives for Asia Pacific Shayne Campbell and Almira Ramadani, CAAP Director General Captain Manuel Antonio Tamayo, Deputy Director General for Operations Captain Edgardo G. Diaz, and Deputy Director General for Administration Danjun Lucas.
Representatives from the Air Traffic Service, Aerodrome and Air Navigation Services Oversight Office, Air Navigation Service, Flight Standards Inspectorate Service (FSIS), and Safety and Quality Management Office were also present at the meeting.
The FAA expressed its willingness to assist and support in drafting and finalizing the National Air Navigation Plan, conducting a study on parallel runways, enhancing the country’s Air Traffic Management Center infrastructure, and Air Traffic Flow Management.
CAAP shared updates on the privatization of their services.
The signing of the agreement is expected to take place during the Asia/Pacific Air Navigation Planning and Implementation Regional Work Group (APANPIRG) Meeting in Bangkok later this year.
FAA also expressed its support for Capt. Tamayo as the Chairperson of APANPIRG and for the Authority’s hosting of the upcoming 59th Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation Asia and Pacific Regions to be held in Cebu in October.
