A female lawmaker on Tuesday sought a congressional investigation into thefts in guarded parking buildings and lots.

ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Niña Taduran made the call after her sports utility vehicle was ransacked by still unidentified suspects at the parking building of a shopping mall in Sta. Mesa, Manila.

She said the suspects took her laptop, mobile phone, pieces of jewelry and cash after smashing the rear window of her car.

“We pay exorbitant fees for parking and yet these establishments can’t provide the assurance that our vehicles will be safe from theft and damage,” Taduran said in a statement.

She said she would file a resolution on the matter as she believed the protection and safety of the consumers should be extended to their properties which are entrusted to the establishments.

She said she would initiate the crafting of a bill in Congress where “parking establishments should be liable for the losses and damage to vehicles inside their guarded premises.”
