CAAP commends janitress for returning P280,000

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has commended a janitress for honesty after she turned over to the management of Laguindingan Airport a bag containing 40 pieces of 500 Saudi Riyal equivalent to about P280,000.

The CAAP employee identified as Merraflor Simbre was on duty when she found the item at the restroom of the airport’s Passenger Terminal Building Area.

“Ms. Simbre, a facility cleaner in CAAP – Laguindingan Airport, displayed an admirable act of honesty and integrity by returning the lost item to Ms. Evangeline Maghanoy, a domestic helper from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, who arrived via Philippine Airlines OWWA flight two days ago, April 17,” CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio said.

“Expecting nothing in return, Ms. Simbre showcased CAAP’s core values of integrity and honesty in the course of their service to the public,” he added. Joel E Zurbano

Apolonio said the incident was reported by CAAP Laguindingan Airport manager. Job De Jesus to the Office of the CAAP director general in the agency’s central office in Pasay City.

Laguindingan International Airport serves the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, and Marawi, as well as the provinces of Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte and Bukidnon.

The CAAP commended the facility cleaner for her honesty and integrity in line of duty.

“Despite the hardships brought about by the pandemic, there are people like Ms. Simbre who remain honest and trustworthy in their field of work,” the CAAP stated.
