WITH the significant increase in the number of foreigners in the country, the Bureau of Immigration has opened a new satellite office in Las Piñas City to cater to hundreds of clients in the city that need not go to the main office in Intramuros, Manila.
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said the opening of the BI Las Piñas Field Office aimed to widen the bureau’s reach, and at the same time provide convenience to the bureau’s growing clients.
The BI chief said the new field office would also provide all the needs of clients, mostly foreigners, in terms of extending their visas and other legal process that may require them to legally stay in the country.
“Through the years, we have noticed a significant increase of foreigners transacting in our office,” he said, adding, “ there is a need to open new satellite offices in strategic areas, not only in metro Manila but in nearby suburbs.”
The BI Las Piñas Field Office, along with several other government offices, is part of the Government Service Express, located at the Ground Floor of SM SouthMall.
SM Southmall’s GSE was launched this Monday and was attended by SM and BI’s key officials.
“We are thankful to the management of SM Southmall for providing us space that will help us achieve our goal of providing better and more accessible public service,” said Morente.
BI Las Piñas, he said, was launched to cater to clients from the South of Metro Manila.
He added that they are expecting to open more offices, including a new field office in the Palayan City Business Hub in Nueva Ecija within the year, and their new main office along the Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard in Pasay City by 2020.
