Sen. Go says as VP, he can work with anyone

Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go on Thursday stressed he “can work with anyone” when asked if the ruling PDP-Laban party tips their hat to the presidential bid of former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Earlier, Marcos was sought for his comment on a Marcos-Go tandem if he would get the former presidential aide as his running mate in the 2022 elections.

In jest, Marcos quipped: “Paano iyon, Bongbong-Bong? Bong to the third power? Baka puwede rin, we’ll see.”

Marcos said he had planned to get President Rodrigo Duterte as his vice president, as he had declared his intention to vie for the country’s second highest elective position.

However, the President did not file his Certificate of Candidacy (COC). Instead, Go filed his COC for vice president.

Go had repeatedly rejected the endorsement of the Cusi faction of PDP-Laban to be the party’s standard bearer.

He emphasized that his priority is to pursue the continuity of programs of the current administration and expand it to sustain the positive change that President Duterte has started.

“I can work with anyone… I will respect whoever will be elected by the public for the presidency,” he said.

Go has pledged to be a “working vice president” if the Filipino people elect him, stressing that he will not merely be a “spare tire” but rather a public servant who ordinary Filipinos can rely on.

“If the public will give me an opportunity, I will be a working Vice President who will do everything to serve Filipinos, not only in words, but also in actions,” he said.

Go filed his Certificate of Candidacy in Pasay City on October 2, accompanied by President Duterte. Go said that his decision to run was motivated by his desire to carry on the Duterte Administration’s legacy.

The senator added that the party “will support a presidential candidate who can push for the continuity that the people want.”

Meanwhile, Go expressed his gratitude to Filipinos for their continued support for him and the Duterte Administration. He assured them that he would keep pushing for programs that would continue the change that the present administration had started.

He explained that despite his vice presidential bid, Go remains focused on his duties as a senator and public servant, especially in assisting the government and the general public in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
