The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said it will deactivate more than 4.2 million voters from the present voters list for failing to vote in two consecutive polls.
Comelec chairman George Garcia said the 4,239,483 deactivated voters will be delisted from the present total voters of 68 million.
Majority of the deactivated voters—at least 4,237,054—failed to vote in two consecutive regular elections; 1,829 were excluded by court order; 595 failed to validate their names, and three (3) were delisted after they lost their Filipino citizenship.
Calabarzon has the most number of deactivated voters at 733,903 followed by Central Luzon with 503,297 while in third is Western Visayas with 384,001.
The number of deactivated voters in other regions are as follows: 366,968 in Central Visayas; 315,971 in Bicol; 251,501 in Eastern Visayas; 247, 682 in Ilocos; 218,515 in Davao; 210,798 in Soccsksargen; and 104,238 in Metro Manila.
However, Garcia said the deactivated voters will be allowed to reactivate their voter’s registration by following the instructions in an email from the Comelec that will be sent to the delisted voters.
Voter registration is ongoing until September 30.
