Boozy summer indoors

You know what makes Zoom parties or intimate summer soirées at home more fun? Some say music and games. Others agree it’s food. A few will say, “as long as you’re together, that’s already fun”.

For many free-spirited, fun-loving people, the answer is summer cocktails – those that can make you feel like you’re out at the beach basking in the sun, or at a music festival with friends even though we are just spending the sunny season indoors.

MONKEY GETAWAY. Whisky brand Monkey Shoulder launches a summer campaign that encourages people to bring the summer fun indoors with cocktails, music, and games.

William Grant & Sons’ whisky brand “made for mixing” brings the summer fun in with its latest campaign “Summertime Drinks but #makeitmonkey” featuring Monkey Shoulder cocktails, limited edition summertime packs, and a complete digital party guide.

Monkey Shoulder, named after the strain injury, which left one arm hanging low (like a monkey’s), that was common among malt men, is a blend of single malt whisky whose creamy and zesty orange flavor is complemented by a hint of vanilla and cinnamon.

As it is “designed to be the ultimate whisky for mixing drinks”, according to regional brand ambassador Samuel Ng, the brand’s campaign features two cocktails best enjoyed during warmer months.

The tasty and heady Monkey Colada is made with 40ml Monkey Shoulder, 20ml Koko Kanu (coconut rum), 60ml coconut water, 10ml fresh lime juice, two freshly cut pineapple rings, and a dash of sugar syrup. To mix, simply add all ingredients in a blender, blend till smooth, and add a dash of sugar syrup to taste. Pour into glass (or a tiki mug, if you’re into that) and garnish it with a pineapple leaf and pineapple chunk. Ng recommends pairing this drink with grilled food.

For an easy to make, refreshing cocktail, the Ginger Monkey only needs 50ml Monkey Shoulder, 120ml ginger ale, and one orange wedge. Fill a long glass with ice and add Monkey Shoulder and ginger ale. Garnish with orange wedge. Drink this three-recipe cocktail with a cheese pizza.

Monkey Shoulder also prepared a complete digital party guide (linktr.ee/monkeyshoulder) containing  summertime shindig essentials such a game night guide, a game pack, a Mixcloud playlist (featuring Father Funk, Cut La Vis, Quantic, and more), and cocktail recipes.

“The pandemic may have changed our lifestyles, but we know that consumers are still looking to indulge in a little summertime fun this season,” says Ng.

He adds, “As a whisky that’s made for mixing, we want to encourage people to get playful and mix things up using Monkey Shoulder as a base for their at-home cocktail concoctions. Go wild, get creative, and don’t forget to crack out the party games and funky playlists for an elevated experience throughout these summer months!”
