Zamboanga City is seen as a powerhouse team in the Mindanao leg of the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Cup, with Cebuano guard Eloy Poligrates spearheading the Zamboanguenos once the Mindanao leg kicks off.

Known as a flashy left-handed guard, Poligrates can help the Zamboanguenos stamp their mark in the VisMin Cup.

The team also includes slam-dunk champion and former Cebu Sharks forward JR Puerto, along with ex-Shark John Reel Saycon and former University of San Carlos bigs Charles Pepito and Kent Cabañog.

“We got players, who played in big tournaments. But this tournament is for the local players we have in the team to show their talents also,” said Zamboanga City coach Rodolfo Jose A. Abad Jr.

Abad talked about the team’s coming campaign with Zamboanga del Sur Gov. Victor Yu and team owner, Zamboanga del Sur Rep. Ruel Cabardo.

Zamboanga del Sur will clash with the likes of Zamboanga City, Pagadian, Ozamis, Iligan, Basilan, Dipolog and Roxas in the Mindanao leg which was supposed  to tip off on May 25 in a bubble setting at the Mindanao Civic Center in Tubod, Lanao del Norte.

But because of a spike in COVID-19 cases in the area, the opening has been rescheduled for another date, time and venue.

Other members of the team include Eric C. Bangcoyan, Russel  Moneva, Shawn A. Labisores, Orly Biwang, Charles  Pepito, Mario Junio, Garexx  Puerto,  Levert  Lintayan, Daryl C. Cruz, Vanrolph Amoquis, Kenith  Dela Cruz,  Jeffrey Tajonera,  Ruben Caritan,  Archie Cabrila, Hans Sison, JR Raflores, Adrian Salvador Celada, Dan Sara,  John Calvin Jabello,  Klent Singedas and Constancio Lumingkit.
