Miss Eco Philippines 2019 Kelley Day is finally competing at the pandemic-postponed Miss Eco International pageant in Egypt.
The model and actress is the third to compete abroad after her Miss World Philippines 2019 batchmates Michelle Dee (Miss World 2019) and Katrina Llegado (Reina Hispanoamericana) had a strong finish in their respective international competition.
At the official send-off tendered for her by the Miss World Philippines organization’s Arnold Vegafria, the 24-year-old beauty queen was excited to share her game plan. She also thanked everyone who was supporting her journey during these times of uncertainty.
“In less than a month, I will be standing on an international stage with more than 60 beautiful women from all over the world, and it is important in any type of competition that you find ways to stand out,” Day, who hopes to win the country’s second Miss Eco International crown after Cynthia Thomalla’s victory in 2018, said.
“Preparations have been a little more challenging than usual given the circumstances of the pandemic, thus I am ever so grateful for everyone that has been putting in their time and effort to help me showcase our beautiful country with all the light it deserves,” she added.
Day, a Filipino-British beauty, raised and finished high school in Dubai, has been a model at the age of six. She moved to the Philippines to continue her career in modeling and try her luck in showbiz. She was a member of the all-girl dance group GirlTrends before deciding to transfer to GMA in 2018.
Day is an Alopecia advocate, a medical condition that causes hair loss in round patches, after suffering the disease herself in 2019.
“I wanted to make the most of this platform, to raise consciousness on auto-immune diseases such as psoriasis and alopecia, to let people know that it’s ok and to teach them how to deal with it properly and to help those who are also suffering from the same medical condition,” Day said.
Miss Eco International 2019 winner Suheyn Cipriani of Peru got dethroned due to pregnancy. The first runner up, Miss Eco-Philippines Maureen Montagne, was supposed to take over but she declined because of the conflict with the Bb. Pilipinas pageant she was joining. The title was eventually given to fourth runner up, Amy Tinie Abdul Aziz of Malaysia.
Miss Eco International 2021, the pageant’s 6th edition, will be held in Egypt snd its coronation night will be on April 6 with 65 countries from around the world competing. Baron Resort Sharm Elshekh is hosting the preliminary, national costume show on April 2, and the coronation night.
