Caloocan Rep. Dale “Along” Malapitan has ordered the immediate inspection and repair of a three-meter bridge in Barangay 31 of Maypajo in the second district of Caloocan City to safeguard residents from untoward accidents in case the rundown bridge collapses.

Malapitan likewise directed barangay officials to do the necessary repair works on another bridge that also connects Talilong and Paulicas streets to other streets in Barangay 31.

“This bridge (that connects Talilong and Paulicas streets) has been providing service to the people of Maypajo and has endured calamities that we all have been experiencing over the years such as earthquakes, floods, and typhoons that eventually brought it to its current state,” Malapitan said.

The congressman’s action was in reaction to an appeal made by Emma Flores Jativa, a resident of Barangay 31, who expressed concern about the dangers posed by the dilapidated bridge to the 25 families living in the area.

Malapitan, accompanied by barangay chairman Jose Mercado, personally inspected the bridge to address the concerns raised by Jativa.

“Upon hearing the concerns of Jativa, I immediately went there and gave outright the needed financial assistance and I instructed barangay chairman Mercado and his Council to start the repairs right away to avoid any harm and danger to the residents of Talilong and Paulicas Streets,” the congressman said.

The residents of Barangay 31 thanked Malapitan for his prompt action.

In response, the congressman said: “As a public servant, I don’t want to be limited by jurisdiction. I am pleased to be of help and serve the people of Caloocan. As your Congressman, I am not only bound to craft laws but to also work towards the protection, welfare and well-being of my constituents.”
