The Makati City government has started the distribution of learner’s package to some 1,087 pupils aged four enrolled under the city’s Pre-Kindergarten education program.

Mayor Abigail Binay said the project is part of her administration’s thrust to ensure continuous education for the youth despite the pandemic, largely through strategic partnerships with the Schools Division Office of Makati (SDO-Makati) under the Department of Education.

“Our commitment to quality education encompasses preschool-aged Makatizens, given that they are at the crucial stage when they start to develop cognitive skills. Together with SDO-Makati, we have put together a learner’s package that contains tools that will stimulate their creativity and imagination, and help them learn new things and activities,” said Binay.

The city chief executive said each package contains different learning materials to aid in the growth and development of the recipients.

These include an alphabet puzzle set, alphabet flash cards, Math/Numbers flash cards, wooden magnetic drawing board, abacus, plastic building blocks toys, big crayons, clay, glue, popsicle sticks, scissors, construction papers, plastic ball, and jumping rope for kids. Each customized pre-K transparent bag also contains a hygiene kit with soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, and face towel.

The program, which will run for five months under the supervision of 10 teachers, will utilize the Localized and Enhanced Pre-K Curriculum aligned with the standards of the Early Childhood Care and Development.

Binay urged parents of Pre-K children to support the program by being actively involved in their children’s early education.

“We hope that parents of these 1,087 youngsters enrolled in our pre-K program will devote enough time and attention to engage them in daily learning exercises using the tools we have provided. Making it a part of their daily routine will go a long way in preparing them for formal education,” said Binay.

To claim their child’s learner’s package, parents and guardians only need to bring their valid ID to the DyipNi Maki site of the barangay where the school is located from Dec. 7 to 11 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

In case they are not available to claim the package, they can authorize anyone to claim it if they present an authorization letter, photocopy of the valid ID of the parent or guardian, and a photocopy of the claimant’s valid ID.
