Amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis, the Department of Agrarian Reform has tapped a farmers’ group to supply agricultural produce to the biggest government hospital in Eastern Visayas.

Secretary John Castriciones said the agency has partnered with MAALSADA-Farmer Irrigators Service Cooperative, chaired by Reynaldo Peja, in linking the farmers’ organization as the food supplier for Eastern Visayas Medical Center.

The farmers would be supplying 150 sacks of milled rice every month and 150 kilos of assorted vegetables daily for the daily meal of the hospital patients.

MAALSADA-FISCO would also supply milled rice and vegetables to Schistosomiasis Research Hospital in Palo, and the Department of Health-Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Dulag.

Castriciones said another agrarian reform beneficiaries organization in Leyte, the Paglaum Farmers Association (PFA), also benefited from the marketing contract facilitated by DAR under the enhanced partnership against hunger and poverty program of the government. Rio N. Araja
