Nearly 14,000 MSMEs in NCR remain closed

Nearly 14,000 micro, small and medium enterprises in the National Capital Region have yet to reopen after suspending their operations during the lockdown, according to the Department Trade and Industry.

The COVID-19 monitoring report from regional offices of the department showed that 70 percent of the MSMEs in the metropolis were not yet operating. About 17 percent or 4,000 enterprises had limited operations.

Data showed 56.4 percent of MSMEs across the country either stalled or terminated their operations amid the health crisis. Those operating under unique limitations represented 13.5 percent of the total while 29.9 percent restarted their businesses.

The country had 998,342 registered MSMEs as of 2019. The government expects more MSMEs to reopen up in the comings weeks, with the support and relief measures from different agencies.
