The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said it would exceed its goal of achieving three million new voters for the May 2025 midterm elections, as the poll body already registered 2,548,324 individuals at present.

Comelec spokesperson Rex Laudiangco attributed the high number of applicants to Filipinos who would like to exercise their right to suffrage.

Calabarzon or the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon posted the highest number of new voters at 466,768 followed by the National Capital Region with 378,553 while Central Luzon recorded 295,635.

“We are right on track,” Laudiangco said.

He said more qualified voters are filing their applications for registration because of the people’s increased awareness about the importance of the right to vote.

Central Visayas logged 181,283 voter registrants thus far; Davao Region with 140,548 and Western Visayas signed up 133,662 new voters.

The lowest number of registrants are in the Cordillera Administrative Region with 32,552, Region 4-B (Mimaropa) with 63,348 and Region 13 (Caraga) with 66,549.

The deadline of the voter registration period is on September 30, 2024.
