Frontline service units of the Police Security and Protection Group tasked to protect the people from the spread of the dreaded coronavirus have received protection against the “unseen enemy” in the form of face shields and washable masks.

PPE DONATION. Protective gears were distributed to those in the frontlines by the PSPG Advisory Council director, PBGen. Marcelo C. Morales, accompanied by businessman and civic leader-philanthropist Dr. Reghis M. Romero II, the council’s chairman.

The protective gears were distributed to those in the frontlines by the PSPG Advisory Council director, PBGen. Marcelo C. Morales, accompanied by businessman and civic leader-philanthropist Dr. Reghis M. Romero II, the council’s chairman.

Romero donated the protective gears, saying they were intended to offer personal protection to the PSPG personnel in the ongoing battle against the coronavirus.

As of April 22, there were 6,710 confirmed cases of COVID-19 infections in the country, with 446 fatalities.

The first case of COVID-19 in the country was confirmed by the Department of Health on Jan. 30, 2020. Rapid spread of the coronavirus infection led the declaration of Enhanced Community Quarantine in Luzon.

Various units of the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines were tapped by the government to help contain the spread of the virus.

In a statement, the PSPG said that thousands of face shields donated by Romero have been distributed to their frontline service units and hospitals.

“The face shields are just the initial logistical supplies that form part of our PPE (personal protective equipment),” said Morales in a statement.

“Another batch of PPEs consisting of thousands of washable face masks has been donated by Dr. Romero to the PSPG for its personnel,” he added.

Morales said the donated PPE symbolize the strong cooperation between government troops and the private sector.

Mandated to secure the country’s democratic institutions and critical infrastructure, the PSPG is envisioned to become a highly capable, effective and credible national support unit of the PNP in providing professional protective security service.

“These PPEs are intended to protect our troops while they keep our community safe at the risk of their own lives,” Romero said.

At the same time, Romero appealed to citizens to comply with the government’s directives meant to further prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

“The PSPG stays at work even in these critical times; so, please, stay at home,” Romero said.
