The City Government of Navotas bagged the silver award in Treatment Coverage Rate of Tuberculosis in the Department of Health Race to End TB Annual Awards.
Vice Mayor Tito Sanchez received the plaque on August 15, 2023 at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria.
Navotas marked a 93.9% increase in its TB case detection rate in 2022.
Mayor John Rey Tiangco thanked the Navotas health workers for going above and beyond their duty to reach constituents who are suffering from the disease, and provide them with proper and adequate medical care.
“We also call on each Navoteño to join the fight against TB. This disease is contagious, but curable. Patients can avail of its treatment for free at our accredited TB-DOTS centers,” Tiangco said.
Out of 11 health centers in Navotas, five provide Directly Observed Therapy for the Treatment of Tuberculosis (TB-DOTS) program.
DOH noted that the city’s active case finding and with the help of various health sector stakeholders, led to the significant increase in TB treatment coverage.
In 2020, under the Navotas City TB Control Program, the city government started giving livelihood assistance to TB patients who completed the 6-8 months treatment.
In 2022, 583 Navoteños received their P3,000 financial aid.
