Quezon City has been cited as nation’s top revenue collector in 2021 and was elevated to the Hall of Fame.

“Our QCitizens have seen significant improvements in the way they transact with the city. In various ways, they have expressed their satisfaction with the quality of programs and services that were made available to them,” city treasurer Ed Villanueva said.

“They trust that their hard-earned money would translate into efficient public services for all,” he added.

Villanueva credited Mayor Joy Belmonte’s strong commitment to good governance, deemed the most important driver of the city’s success in terms of tax collection.

In a memorandum released by the Department of Finance-Bureau of Local Government Finance, the city was hailed anew as the nation’s top-performer in terms of local revenue generation, chalking up P22.9 billion in collected taxes last year.

The city government was also named a hall of famer under the special category “Local Revenue Generation Hall of Fame” after it consistently topped tax collection among all cities nationwide from 2018 to 2020.

Its revenues came from real property tax, business tax and other taxes, such as amusement, transfer and contractors.

“We are honored to share this milestone with every QCitizen.

Because of your continued trust and support to our administration, we have been able to increase our annual local revenues by more than P10 billion since we assumed office,” Belmonte said.

“Their streamlining efforts, including the use of online QC E-Services and the establishment of satellite offices for tax payment, have helped ease processes and encouraged more business owners to settle their dues,” Villanueva noted.

He said the decision of the Belmonte administration to allow a staggered payment scheme for under-declared and undeclared business taxes, instead of hefty penalties, also encouraged businessmen to settle their obligations
