The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Gin Kings had four good players who stood out in the fourth quarter as they took control of the boards and turned back Terra Firma Dyip, 112-107, in the 2022 Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

Justine Brownlee set a personal milestone as he topscored for 29 points, including two final free throws that settled the count for the Gin Kings.

Brownlee’s last two charities moved him into no. 8 overall in the all-time scoring list among imports as they handed the Gin Kings their second straight win, after they outrebounded the Dyip, 51-43.

Christian Standardhinger delivered 26 points, with his jumper off Scottie Thompson’s rebound in the last 31 seconds putting the Gin Kings ahead, 110-107.

Thompson was all over the place with his triple-double of 20 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists, impressing coach Tim Cone.

Thompson managed to pull down three crucial rebounds and force turnovers in the last 1:35, helping Brownlee and Standhardinger score their baskets.

A block by Thompson on Aldrech Ramos in the final 11 seconds kept Terrafirma from recovering in the remaining time.

“Amazing. We’re trying to find ourselves. And I think in this game, we were able to come back and it will go a long way,” said Cone after the Gin Kings posted their fifth win in nine outings.

Cone went on to praise the game of Thompson, who made his fifth career triple double, his first in three seasons.
