The ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan at the House of Representatives on Wednesday commended the leadership under the stewardship of Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez.
Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Jay Velasco, the party president in the House, made the statement following the result of a Pulse Asia survey indicating a 64-percent approval rating of the House leadership under its leaders.
“We congratulate Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano for his high approval and trust ratings in the latest Pulse Asia survey. This shows that the public appreciates what he and the members of the House of Representatives have individually and collectively accomplished in the first two months of the 18th Congress.
“In record time, the House approved the national budget for next year and other priority measures of President Duterte,” Velasco said.
Velasco, chairman of the House committee on energy, said the House under the current leadership was able to put forward the legislative agenda of the Duterte administration.
“While this indicator is important, equally important is communicating our accomplishments to our people.
In this respect, we are happy that Speaker Cayetano and the House leadership have been very effective in informing the public of what the House of Representatives has achieved and what we have set out to do,” Velasco said.
He added: “We are hoping that we will sustain our performance and the people will continue to appreciate it.
Earlier, the emerging dominant National Unity Party welcomed the results of the latest Pulse Asia survey showing the high trust and approval ratings for the House leadership.
NUP president, and Dasmariñas City Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr. said the high ratings received by Cayetano only two months into the speakership post proved that competence and hard work paid off.
“The high approval and trust ratings received by Speaker Cayetano at this early stage of his term show that the people have noticed that he is really sincere and determined in his mission to transform the House of Representatives into the House of the People,’’ said Barzaga who represents Cavite’s fourth district.
“This achievement only proves once more that the NUP made the right choice in supporting Cayetano for the speakership post.
Barzaga recalled that the NUP was the first political party to express its support for Cayetano as Speaker way back in June. At the time, NUP chairman Ronaldo Puno said the party believed “in a speaker who has a principled approach in trusting the institution and protecting its integrity, which are essential in the things the NUP is fighting for.”
Cayetano received a 62-percent trust rating and 64-percent approval rating in the latest Ulat sa Bayan survey conducted by Pulse Asia, the highest received by a Speaker and also the first time a Speaker rated higher than the vice president under the Duterte administration.
