TD ‘Liwayway’ gains strength

Tropical depression “Liwayway” maintained its strength while moving northwest.

As of 5 p.m., “Liwayway” was estimated at 470 kilometers east northeast of Maasin City, Southern Leyte, packing maximum sustained winds of up to 45 kms per hour and gusts of up to 55 kph.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Liwayway would not make landfall and was forecast to leave the Philippine area of responsibility by Thursday morning.

Liwayway’s trough is expected to dampen Bicol, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas and Caraga region with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro and Palawan will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon.

Earlier, a low pressure area developed into a tropical depression named “Kabayan” at 6 a.m. Sunday.

Kabayan stayed for only four hours before leaving the Philippine area of responsibility.
