Commission on Elections Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said she has been receiving threats from Ronald Cardema’s camp after the poll body disqualified the former National Youth Commission head as Duterte Youth partylist candidate.

In a press beefing, Guanzon said she received threats via an anonymous text messages.

The Comelec official alleged that Cardema’s camp has been sending threats to her through text messages after the Comelec handed the decision on Cardema’s nomination last Monday.

Cardema, who is close and a supporter of President Duterte, tried to claim a seat in the House of Representatives as the nominee of a party representing the president’s young supporters, Duterte Youth, but too old for the position.

The problem was, at 34 years old, he wasn’t legally a youth, and he hadn’t been nominated by the party, the Comelec said. The age limit to be considered a nominee of such a partylist group is 33.

“He is creating a problem and then they claim that we are biased. They make me look biased? How can I be biased against someone I do not know?” Guanzon said.

The Comelec official also asked for the perpetual disqualification of Cardema from holding any public office for threatening Comelec officials.
