Employees of the National Housing Authority have denounced the creation of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, saying it would only bring about a mass layoff.

Evangeline Javier, NHA-Consolidated Union of Employees president, said the DHSUD would only create a mass layoff.

NHA-CUE, along with the Confederation for Unity, Recognition, and Advancement of Government Employees, condemned the signing of Republic Act 11201 or the creation of the DHSUD by President Rodrigo Duterte last Feb. 14.

Javier said the new housing agency would only dissolve and merge the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating  Council, and Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board “which would create a mass layoff of government employees.”

While the NHA, along with the Home Guaranty Corp., Social Housing Finance Corp. (formerly the National Home Mortgage and Finance Corp., and Home Mutual Development Fund of Pag-IBIG would also face another mass layoff after two years of the passage of DHSUD since it would recommend a restructuring plan.
