DPWH: 104 new school buildings finished in Reg. 2

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan—The start of the year looks bright for thousands of students, parents, and school facilitators in Region 2 as they get newer and better facilities.

Department of Public Works and Highways Regional Director Melanio C. Briosos reported the completion of 104 school buildings that will accommodate the needs of the K to 12 program in partnership with the Department of Education.

“In response to the region’s growing population of students, DPWH Region 02 has completed the construction of 261 classrooms regionwide in the amount of P1.240 billion,” Briosos said.

The funding was sourced out of Basic Educational Facilities Fund from the 2018 national budget for educational facilities intended for academic, elementary, junior, and senior high schools all over the region.

Briosos said the completion of the projects fulfills the commitment of national leadership to improve educational facilities for the children in the improvised barangays, and at the same time bolstering the K to 12 program of the government in the region,” he added.

Meanwhile, to improve mobility of vehicles and delivery of basic social services, the Department of Public Works and Highways – Isabela First District Engineering Office has paved road shoulders along Junction National-Sta. Victoria Road in the City of Ilagan, Isabela.

The concreting of shoulders was constructed on the road session which spans 1,850 meters. The paved shoulders on both sides measures 3 meters wide and 280 millimeters in thickness.

District Engineering Evelyn C. Costales said the newly-paved shoulders will help hasten traffic flow, making government programs and services more accessible to the residents.

“This will also ease the transport of agricultural products from the locality to the commercial centers of the City of Ilagan,” she added.

The project has a total funding cost P20.4 million. It started on June 6, 2018 and was completed before the year ended.

Also, the Cagayan Third District Engineering Office has completed the flood control system along Pinacanuan River in Bagumbayan, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

According to District Engineer Danilo U. Tabilas, the riverbank in that section section needs protection, so they allocated funding for the construction of river control system, which spans a length of 271.60 lineal meters.

This structure will prevent influx of water to agricultural and residential areas during onset of heavy rains, Tabilas said.

This will prevent damage to properties and protect the lives of about 153,502 residents of Tuguegarao City, he added.

The project amounted to P47 million and was funded under the 2018 Regular Infrastructure Fund.
