LPA develops into a tropical depression

A low pressure area northwest extreme Northern Luzon developed into a tropical depression named “Luis” on Thursday.

As of 4 pm, “Luis” was estimated at 350 kilometers north-northwest of Basco, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/hour near the center and gustiness of up to 90 km/h.

It was moving east-northeast at 15 km/h.

“Luis” was the 12th tropical cyclone that entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility this year.

It had already made landfall in the vicinity of Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

According to the weather bureau, “Luis” will not directly affect any part of the country but will enhance the southwest monsoon to spawn moderate to heavy rain to La Union, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Batanes, the Babuyan group of islands, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.
