Korean car distributor Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. said Thursday car sales declined 8.8 percent in July to 3,279 units from 3,594 units in the same month in 2017.

This put the company’s seven-month sales to 19,236 units, down by 8.2 percent from  the same period last year.

“In the midst of all the uncertainty faced by the automotive industry, Hyundai has proven itself to weather the odds with its strong start in the second half of the year. Expect more to come for the rest of 2018 as we will not let this ‘Kona moment’ pass us by,” said Hyundai Asia president and chief executive Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo.

Data showed said that in July, passenger car sales of Hyundai dropped 35.7 percent to 1,649 units from 2,564 units in the same month in 2017.  The light commercial vehicle managed to increase sales by 600 units or 58.3 percent to 1,630 units, with the introduction of the New Kona, Hyundai’s sub compact SUV model.
