Pressed flower painting is a unique and charming way to preserve the beauty of nature; a renewed way of looking at the beauty of blooms.

Pressed Flower Master Back Mi-Kyoung will teach during her two-day workshops how to apply pressed flower techniques in accessories and handmade soaps, among others.

The craft involves drying flowers and leaves in a flower press and using them in various creative projects, from letter cards to fragrant flower soaps. Pressed flower and leaves are often mounted on a special paper such as handmade paper and Japanese paper.

It has long been practiced as an art form in Asia. One of the experts of this art form is Back Mi-Kyoung from South Korea.

Mi-Kyoung holds the distinction of being the first Pressed Flower Master of the Federation of Artistic and Cultural Organization of Korea since 2014. She finished Complete Modern Art Course at Hongik University and is president of BackHyang Pressed Flower Organization.

She has received several awards, including the grand prize in Pressed Flower Competition by Korea Modern Art Association in 2016; and has mounted 16 pressed flower solo exhibitions.

Sunshine Place brings Mi-Kyoung to the country for a series of two-day workshops in August.

Mi-Kyoung’s workshop at the Sunshine Place will include lessons in applying pressed flower techniques in creating hand mirror, pressed flower set, letter cards, folding fans, hair/clothing accessories, and mini frames.

The two-day workshops will be held in three batches: Batch 1: Aug. 7 and 9; Batch 2: Aug. 11 and 18; and Batch 3: Aug. 13 and 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Sunshine Place in Bel-Air, Makati. Each participant will get a pressed flower painting kit from South Korea.
