Mindanao LPA turns into typhoon

A low pressure area over Mindanao on Tuesday developed into a tropical depression named “Domeng.”

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said “Domeng” was the fourth tropical cyclone to enter the Philippine area of responsibility this year.

“Domeng” was spotted at 675 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, moving north northwest at 14 kilometers per hour.

It was packing maximum winds of 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 60 km/h.

The weather bureau said “Domeng” would enhance the southwest monsoon to bring moderate to heavy rain to Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Caraga, and Davao.

The tropical depression is forecast not to make landfall.
