Makati Mayor Abigail Binay asked city residents to join the city’s street party on Saturday, which will feature popular rock, indie and acoustic bands, and various artists.

The party, starting at 4:30 pm. along Makati Avenue, is part of the “Makati Makisalo” 10-day festival marking the city’s 348th founding anniversary.

“Everyone is welcome to join and celebrate with us. It is also an opportune time for Makatizens, especially the youth, to mingle with their local leaders in a casual setting. I am sure the millennials will have a great time watching the live performances of their favorite bands and artists,” Binay said Thursday.

A performance by Adrinka, a local percussion group, which uses djembe (a goblet drum played with bare hands), will officially open the street party.

The city government also announced it will implement road closures and traffic rerouting on Saturday, June 2, to celebrate the city’s anniversary.

“The Public Safety Department [PSD] will be implementing road closures and traffic rerouting on Saturday starting at 1 am onwards,” said Romulo Salgado Jr., officer-in-charge of the city’s Information and Community Relations Department.

Salgado advised motorists to avoid a stretch of Makati Avenue—from JP Rizal Street to Kalayaan Avenue—that will be closed to traffic to give way for the parade and street party to be held in the afternoon until midnight.

Motorists are also advised to expect heavy traffic and take the following alternate routes:

Vehicles coming from Mandaluyong City and Barangay Guadalupe areas going to Ayala Avenue may take J.P. Rizal Street towards the destination.

Vehicles going to Mandaluyong and JP Rizal areas may take P. Burgos Street towards the destination.

The city government will deploy local enforcers to assist the motorists and manage the flow of traffic in the affected areas.

The event will also feature various mainstream Original Pinoy Music (OPM) bands and artists including Franco, a well-known rock band in the Philippine music arena with its hit track “Cast Away." Franco Reyes, a native of Cebu, serves as the lead singer of the band.

OPM band Moonstar 88, known for its iconic single “Torete” will also perform. OPM artist Ebe Dancel, former vocalist of Sugarfree, will sing the hit singles “Hari ng Sablay,” “Mariposa” and “Makita Kang Muli.”

Completing the line-up of performers during the street party are Autotelic (indie-alternative rock band), Leanne & Naara (acoustic duo), AI James (rapper), The Ransom Collective (indie-folk band), and Gracenote (synco-pop-punk-electro-rock band).

In addition to live entertainment, mobile art jeepneys and trikes as part of the newly launched Mobile Art Hub Project of the city will also be on display. Food and product concessionaires are also expected to participate in the event.

Meanwhile, the parade to be held prior to the street party will showcase Miss Makati 2018 candidates, Caracol performers, delegations from the barangays, City Hall offices, and national government agencies, and several marching bands.

It will start at 3 p.m. from City Hall grounds and end in Makati Avenue where the street party will take place.

On Friday, June 1, a series of activities will kick-off the ten-day festivities with the traditional ‘Almusalan’ for all City Hall employees, the unveiling and installation of the ‘Makati Makisalo’ marker at the Ayala Triangle Gardens, and the Vin d’honneur at The Peninsula Manila in recognition of the city’s development partners in the business sector.

Meanwhile, children can hop into Martina’s Arts and Crafts Corner by 10 am to participate in slime- and puppet-making, face and pottery painting, and cupcake designing activities. The city’s Mobile Art Jeepney will also be presented and Martina Campos, daughter of Mayor Binay, will personally lead the Bath-bomb making session.
