Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Director Aaron Aquino on Tuesday vowed to wipe out illegal drugs in 5,000 drug-affected barangays every year until 2022.

In a television interview, Aquino said he has directed all regional directors to conduct 30 to 40 anti-drugs operations every month to be able to attain his objective.

He also created a committee to closely monitor the progress of every regional office, he added.

“They must reach the target,” he said.

He added that the agency would also put up community-based rehabilitation centers for each of the 1,500 towns and cities.

The facilities would be called Balay Silangan reformation centers, he added.

According to Aquino, 5,100  barangays are already drug-free.

PDEA earlier said 49.65 percent or 20,872 of the 42,036 barangays in the country were affected by illegal drugs.

Aquino bared that out of the 42,036 barangays, only 208 were “seriously affected,” while 6,744 barangays were moderately affected.

On the other hand, 13,920 had been slightly affected.
