TIME is a vital component of the country’s social, political and economic life, according to the Department of Science and Technology.

At a news conference at the Philippine Atmopheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration in Quezon City, Dr. Richard Burgos, DoST’s Science and Technology Information Institute director, cited the importance of time consciousness and synchronization, saying “any saving in time will redound to productivity, efficiency, effectiveness and profitability.”

“All of us will benefit from keeping time,” he said.

Billions of pesos would be lost because of tardiness if the Philippine Standard Time of all analog, mechanical and digital clocks and watches are not synchronized, the agency said.

“(If your watch is not synchronized with Pagasa’s time) You can miss a wedding or lose a spouse or partner,” Burgos said.

“All the things that we depend on time,” he added.

Dr. Aristotle Carandand, STII’s Communication Resources and Production Division chief, said the all departments under the DoST are PhT (Philippine Standard Time) are time-compliant.

Dario dela Cruz, Pagasa’s Space Science and Astronomy Divion head, clarified the Philippine Standard Time has an abbreviation of PhT, and not of PST.

“PST means the Pacific Standard Time, and not the Philippine Standard Time,” he told reporters.

As the country celebrates the National Time Consciousness Week, Pagasa Administrator Vicente Malano reminded all national and government agencies to display the PhT on their official time devices, including bundy clocks, in accordance with the official time being provided by Pagasa using its network time protocol.

“All of these offices shall coordinate at least once a month with Pagasa to synchronize their official timepieces and devices,” he said. (RIO)
