Government forces may have killed Malaysian terrorist Dr. Mahmoud Amad in the intense battle with Maute terrorists last night in Marawi City.

Mahmoud was reportedly the last remaining leader in the fight began by Maute terrorists in the city last May.

"We are becoming increasingly confident that it was Mahmoud," reported Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Spokesperson Brigadier General Restituto Padilla.

Padilla says, the information is based on the accounts of witnesses who were rescued.

Fighting has been intense in Marawi City's main battle area since last night.

13 terrorists were killed on Wednesday evening.

The military is determining if Mahmoud was among the fatalities.

6 soldiers were injured.

A mother and child were rescued from the Maute terrorists.

The child sustained minor wounds during the operation.
