A lawmaker on Sunday demanded an explanation from the management of the Metro Rail Transit 3 on the supposed three-year budget of maintenance service provider Busan Universal Rail Inc. amounting to P18.05 million for its six janitorial personnel tasked to clean the 43 light rail vehicles.
Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta Party-List Rep. Jericho Nograles said the amount translates to an annual budget of P6,016,800.
Each personnel would then get an average of P83,566 per month, Nograles said.
“We spend P18 million for six cleaners for three years?” he added.
Nograles compared the hefty compensation to a government official with salary grade 26 or a director II who only receives less than P83,000 per month, or a bank manager getting a monthly wage of P40,000 to P60,000.
Such budget for the janitorial services was preposterous and scandalous, he said, noting that the scope of cleaning job only covers the light rail vehicles and and not the entire MRT 3 facility.
