THE Philippines’ hosting of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games will be its best ever.
Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri said this after emerging from separate meetings with officials of the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee last Monday.
“This will be our best hosting. In the 2019 SEA Games, we should ensure (the quality of) venues, sports facilities, hotels and other facilities. Sa bagay, may dalawang taon pa tayo,” said Zubiri.
Zubiri is familiar in how things are run in sports and this will help a lot in the country’s hosting of the games, according to sports officials.
That’s because he and his family are actively involved in combat sports.
He was recently named as honorary chairman of the Philippine Karatedo Federation.
This is aside from his role as head of Arnis Philippines.
On the other hand, his two kids are deep into the sport of taekwondo.
“My original sports was karate. I credit my discipline and skills on karate. It’s like going full circle, noong bata ako I was in karate and now I’m only returning what good I learned,” stated Zubiri.
Zubiri said he is eager to know how the SEA Games is organized by other countries.
And he will be in the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur to find out how things are run.
“Yes, I’m excited to go to Kuala Lumpur to see the 2017 Games,” added Zubiri.
