SAGUDAY, Quirino—This town recently received P1.45 million in livelihood assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment for its displaced workers.

“This fund will provide livelihood projects for 181 displaced workers such as solo parents, farmers and beneficiaries of the government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program [4Ps],” said Maria Theresa Ronquillo, DoLE provincial chief.

She said the funds will be used to produce fossilized flowers and bamboo crafts made by the beneficiaries.

Ronquillo said the livelihood assistance was rolled out through the DoLE’s Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program, which aims to reduce poverty in the country through self-employment and augmentation of incomes.

The emergency employment also provides immediate source of income for the displaced workers, she added.

Mayor Marcelina Pagbilao said the residents are very grateful for DoLE’s help for the poor in her municipality. She also challenged the beneficiaries to use the assistance for their welfare and the improvement of their economic status.

“I have seen other beneficiaries of DoLE’s programs succeed in improving their lives. I hope you will too by showing honesty, hard work and patience,” Pagbilao said.
