Posadas jumps to 7th in Bowling World Cup elimination

PHIILIPPINE champion Lara Posadas carded 3086 pinfalls after 15 games yesterday and remained on target for one of 24 slots in the second round of the 52nd QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup international finals at Hao’s Center in Shanghai, China.

With her consistent performance, Posadas jumped to 7th, averaged 205.73 and stayed within striking distance of the other women champions 68 countries after finishing 16th after 10 games.

The other Filipino aspirant in the week-long tournament—Raoul Miranda—was still playing his third block of five games, along with pintopplers from 78 other countries.

Singapore’s Bernice Lim paced the women’s field with 3349 for a 223.27 average.

Germany’s Nadine Geissler checked in second with 3213, followed by Australia’s Rebecca Whiting (3212), Sweden’s Jenny Wegner (3200), England’s Lisa John (3195), the US’ Danielle McEwan (3184), Posadas, Indonesia’s Sharon Limansantoso (3069), Brazil’s Roberta Rodrigues (3038, Malaysia’s Syaidatul Afifah (3006), Netherlands’ Lisanne Breeschoten (3005) and Mexico’s Iliana Lomeli (3004).

After 10 games, Miranda was in 29th position but he was confident of making the 24-man field in the second round.

The Philippines has already produced international champions in the past, led by Paeng Nepomuceno, so far the only bowler to have won the World Cup four times.

The other past Filipino winners were the late Lita dela Rosa, Bong Coo and C. J. Suarez.
