Relief assistance continued to pour in at the evacuation center that houses the fire victims from Sitio Sta. Maria in Barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City.
Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan and Rep. Cindi King-Chan thanked all donors who provided food packs and necessities to the families residing in the city’s tents under the Marcelo Fernan Bridge.
The two officials have been busy helping the victims and coordinating with other officials who wish to alleviate their suffering.
The Lapu-Lapu City Mayor guided and assisted Tingog Partylist Regional Chairperson Happy Calatrava and their staff in distributing food packs in orange bags at the evacuation site. City Social Welfare and Development Office personnel assisted them.
Each bag contained assorted canned goods, packs of noodles, coffee sachets, and kilos of rice.
In his short message, the mayor thanked House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, who supported the congresswoman’s efforts at the House of Representatives for the Oponganons.
The mayor is also grateful to Tingog Partylist Rep. Yedda Romualdez for the second batch of relief assistance and the SM Foundation for assisting the affected families.
Estrella Wamilda, representing SM Foundation, Incorporated’s Operation Tulong Express, generously donated 1,400 relief packs to the fire victims in Sitio Sta. Maria. Rep. King-Chan personally received the donations at Pusok Elementary School.
Sen. Bong Go, through Mr. Malasakit, also distributed pails of relief assistance at the evacuation site. The senator’s staff also gave ready-to-eat food packs to evacuees and provided essentials to pregnant ladies.
Last week, immediately after the fire, affected families took temporary shelter in wide tents placed un der the Marcelo Fernan Bridge.
The center’s information board showed that the number of fire victims is 1,575 families or 8,013 individual residents.
