The Samsung Performing Arts Theater is presenting a week-long celebration for International Dance Day (IDD) from April 24 to 28. The event will showcase more than 500 Filipino dancers across a range of styles including folk, ballet, and contemporary dance, along with a workshop on dance film.

Presented by Ayala Land in collaboration with Make It Makati and Circuit Makati, the event is initiated by the International Theatre Institute (ITI) Dance Committee.

IDD serves as a global tribute to the profound influence of dance on society. This annual celebration, established in 1982 in honor of Jean-Georges Noverre, the “father of modern ballet,” aims to unite communities across cultural and political boundaries while recognizing the artistic contributions of dancers and choreographers worldwide.

Themed “Dance For All,” IDD offers a captivating exploration of music and movement. Featured highlights include Bungad, a folk dance choreographed by Nicole Primero of Airdance and performed by Carlos Deriada Jr., accompanied by enchanting melodies by Dr. Robin Daniel Rivera.

The Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group presents Pindulas, showcasing Yakan courtship rituals from Basilan Island. Ballet Manila presents Dancing to Verdi, a pas de deux choreographed by Tony Fabella and performed by principal dancers Shaira May Comeros and Joshua Ray Enciso. Additionally, a contemporary piece titled Tahan Na, directed and choreographed by PJ Rebullida with Abby Bonifacio as performer, adds a modern flair to the festival.
