Basketball fans in the Philippines had the time of their lives with a meet-and-greet session with five-time NBA Champion Derek Fisher.
The event, hosted by vivo, the official smartphone of the NBA, marked the second time vivo has partnered with the NBA to bring unique experiences to Filipino fans.
Fisher met with his Filipino fans last April 17 at the vivo concept store in SM Megamall.
Derek Fisher, a household name for his championship runs with the Los Angeles Lakers, is more than just a basketball icon. He’s also a coach, brand investor, and documentary producer.
Fans interacted with Fisher, asked questions, and even got their memorabilia signed. During the meet-and-greet, the legendary NBA player highlighted the best moment in his basketball career.
“It had to be just getting drafted into the NBA. Anything that happened after that starts with getting there first,” he said. “Having the opportunity to be drafted by the Lakers in 1996 was an amazing blessing that stands to me as ‘the’ moment.”
He also expressed his delight in spending the unique opportunity with his Filipino fans, who made the most of the moment by wearing their Lakers jerseys and shirts while bringing tributes like portraits to show Fisher.
During the question and answer portion, one Filipino fan thanked Fisher for inspiring him to chase his basketball dreams, especially after watching the NBA player perform in back-to-back championships in 2009 and 2010.
In response, Fisher highlighted that in chasing dreams, it’s vital to remain passionate about the goal to make the journey worth all the time and effort.
