CAGAYAN DE ORO standout Inand Fornillos is making heads turn lately.
His steady game in the third quarter led the La Salle Greenhills Greenies to a 76-55 smashing of the Jose Rizal University Light Bombers.
The 18-year-old Fornillos, who transferred from University of Santo Tomas, banged in 11 of 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. His efforts contributed to the Greenies’ sixth triumph in eight games at the Arena in San Juan.
This helped in the Greenies’ bid to get back on the winning track in the 93rd National Collegiate Athletic Association junior basketball tournament.
After suffering two consecutive losses, the Greenies moved up the standings to gain a share of second spot with the San Beda Red Cubs.
“Binigay namin lahat nung third quarter. Sabi ni coach, gising na kami after two straight losses,” said Fornillos.
With the game close, 32-31, at halftime, Fornillos made his presence felt with his hustle plays in the shaded lane.
He struck twice during a 10-0 run, and the Greenies went on to enjoy a 42-31 spread with 7:38 left.
Joshua Marcos and Sidney Mosqueda shot 11 points for the Greenies, with Marcos’ three-point play in remaining 6:35 widening their lead to 12, 45-33.
Tristan Tolentino hit 10 points for JRU, which took its sixth loss against a win.
“A win is a win. After back to back losses, we really needed this one,” said LSGH coach Marvin Bienvenida.
The Greenies had earlier absorbed stinging losses in the hands of the defending champion Mapua Red Robins and the San Sebastian Staglets.
