Kristina Knott, Lauren Hoffman and 18-year-old Fil-Kiwi Mariele Venida set three new records on Friday in the 2024 ICTSI Philippine Athletics Championships at the Philsports Track oval in Pasig.
The Olympian Knott ran a slower time in the women’s 100-meter finals, finishing in 11.51 seconds, and beating Nur Aisha Ali of Sabah and Angelyn Ortiz of Far Eastern University, who had clockings of 11.95 seconds and 12.05 seconds for second and third, respectively.
But in the morning heats, Knott eclipsed Lerma Bulaitan’s 24-year-old, hand-timed mark of 11.3 seconds with her 11.2 clocking.
“I felt I ran better this morning. It felt good. I got surprised by the hand time. I’m shocked,” said Knott, who won her second gold medal after taking the women’s 200-meter gold the previous day.
Hoffman, who is aiming for a seat in the Paris Olympics, broke the women’s 400-hurdles mark for the fourth time this year, after she ran 55.92 seconds in the finals with Robyn Brown, who used to own the record two years ago at 56.44 seconds, taking second.
Brown settled for the silver in 57.27 seconds, while Josie Inemedo of University of the Philippine was third in 1:04.69.
Venida, an accounting student at the University of Auckland, ran the under-100 meter finals in 11.65 seconds.
Her time beat Kayla Richardson’s 11.70, set back in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games.
Nyadau Omilla of Sarawak was second in 11.95 seconds, with Isa Pangilinan of University of Santo Tomas finishing third in 12.44 seconds.
“I think the conditions in the finals was much better than in the morning, when it was hot,” said Venida, who finished the heats in 11.73 seconds.
