Angelico “Gelix” Mercader is coming aboard as the new General Secretary of the Philippine Football Federation.
Mercader came in to replace Mikhail “Coco” Torre after the Philippine Football Federation Executive Committee approved his appointment during meeting last Saturday in Pasig City. ”
The change in the federation comes as new PFF president John Gutierrez makes a transition for a new administration ahead of the coming year.
“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Gelix Mercader as new PFF general secretary,” said Gutierrez, who endorsed Mercader’s appointment to the Executive Committee.
Gutierrez said Mercader’s entry “brings with him the knowledge and experience of empowering stakeholders in promoting and developing football in the country.
The PFF chief said he has been working closely with Mercader in the past few months and has “seen from up close his leadership skills and work ethic.”
Mercader was a former PFF Media Officer. He will be tasked to handle PFF’s day-to-day administrative activities and will work closely with the PFF chief.
Mercader brings with him the experience of working with both non-profit organizations and the government.
“I am grateful for the trust they have given to me in being part of the PFF as we usher in a new era in Philippine football,” said Mercader.
Meanwhile, Torre will be back on his role as PFF Head of Competitions and Philippines Football League Commissioner.
