Adamson, UST stay unbeaten in UAAP girls’ beach volley

UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas and Adamson University bested separate foes to remain unbeaten Sunday in the UAAP Season 86 High School Girls Beach Volleyball Tournament at the Sands SM By The Bay.

Khy Progella and Cameron Grace Villaluz overwhelmed National University Nazareth School’s Vilmarie Toos and Laiza Benigay, 21-11, 21-11, to give the Junior Tiger Sands a 2-0 record.

The Baby Falcons also logged their second straight victory, but Shai Nitura and Fel Sagaysay went through the wringer before beating Far Eastern University-Diliman’s Frenchie Premaylon and Love Lopez, 14-21,21-15, 15-11.

The Baby Tamaraws, who used Sheena Cafe in the one-hour, 14-minute match, dropped to 2-1 in third spot.

Ateneo entered the win column as Ten Quimpo and Abigail May Martija subdued UP Integrated School’s Khloe Long and Janella Guarino, 21-13, 21-15.

The Blue Eagles moved in a tie with the Bullpups in fourth place at 1-2.

De La Salle-Zobel, as Aislinn Alemaña and Katrina Tria who drew a Sunday bye, has a 1-1 record in fourth place.

In the boys’ division, there is a five-way logjam on top between University of the East, NUNS, FEU-Diliman, UST, and Adamson.

Jan Macam, Xyrone Montemayor, and third player Anhril Cuadra beat UPIS’s Juan Miguel Navarro and Japeth Ben Casabar, 21-13, 21-10.

Adamson dealt defending champion FEU-D its first loss as Tommy Castrodes, CJ Dominquito, and third player Brandy Clemente outlasted Kyle Tandoc and Amet Bituin, 11-21, 21-18, 15-13.

UST posted its second straight win after an opening day defeat as John Michael Lagaran and Lance Malinao nipped NUNS’ John Wayne Dionela and Rain Skyler Gemarino, 21-18, 21-18.

De La Salle-Zobel is level with Ateneo at 1-2 as Mario Roxas and Christopher Pallega turned back Mon Paquito Berdos and Santiago Andres Avila, 21-10, 21-13.

Action resumes on Friday.
