The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas brought together various stakeholders for the SBP Women’s Summit held last April 12, 2024 at Marco Polo Hotel OrEgas to discuss the future of women’s basketball in the country.

“There’s no problem with regards to the compeEEveness of college basketball in the country for women, the problem is aNer college. Where do these players go? Where can they play if they don’t make it to the naEonal team? Kung wala tayong league, we won’t see the late-bloomers, sayang din talaga,” said the SBP ExecuEve Director.

Coach Pat Aquino presented the future plans for Gilas Women with the ulEmate goal of reaching the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Players from the naEonal team such as Afril Bernardo, Camille Nolasco, Andrea Tongco and Louna Ozar were also present.

“With what’s happening in the world of women’s basketball right now, with the US NCAA, let’s try to follow what is happening there. It also affected us here with the tryouts that we held. We had more than a hundred girls trying out for the Gilas team,” said the women’s naEonal team coach.
