THIS time, the Philippine national women’s football fought it out to the bitter end.

But, Fil-Australian booter Angela Beard’s lone goal was not enough for the Filipinos to post a win in their second friendly with South Korea on Monday at the Icheon Sports Complex in Gyeonggi Province in South Korea.

Coach Mark Torcasos said he was still pleased at the way members of the team conducted themselves, even though they took a 1-2 setback at the hands South Korea.

“The way they responded in the first few minutes of the game was excellent. I’m still proud of the girls on how they conducted themselves.

Beard scored late in the game, off  a free kick in the 74th minute, after the Koreans led by two goals.

This was Beard’s the first-ever goal while wearing the  Philippine jersey in 11 appearances for the country.

In their first encounter, the Filipinas absorbed a 0-3 setback.

Choe Yu-ri assisted Choo Hyoojoo for a goal with just a minute into the game, before she sent in one  herself in the 33rd minute.

New faces have been brought in following their recent stint in the Pinatar Cup in Spain,

The Filipinas have welcomed newcomers Nina Mathelus, Aiselyn Sia, Alexa Pino and Gabrielle Baker into the roster.

“We want to continue to build our brand, and also our resilience as a team. With the players, there’s opportunities,” said  Torcaso.

The new players are being called up to be possibly included in the Philippine squad for the Asian Football Confederation U-17 Asian Cup,

Among those who answered the call were Alessandrea Carpio and Chayse Ying, two United States-based standouts.

Also named in the callup are Cathrine Graversen and Charisa Lemoran, a defender and midfielder who all have international experiences as well.

The mainstays, Sarina Bolden, Hali Long, Olivia McDaniel, Quinley Quezada, Katrina Guillou, Sara Eggesvik, Tahnai Annis, Angela Beard, Jessika Cowart and Sofia Harrison, were also around.
