CYRINNE Inan of Angono, Rizal is closely following in the footsteps of her older sister Lovely, who bagged a silver medal in the recent Southeast Asian Games.

Encouraged by her coach Richard “Pep” Agosto, Cyrinne overcame fatigue and pushed herself to the limit, hoisting a best total of 129 kgs in the 16-17, women’s 45-kg action of the weightlifting event of the recent Batang Pinoy at the Felicisimo Ampon Tennis Center’s Dacudao court inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex last week.

Cyrinne’s lift was the heaviest in her age group as she continues to challenge herself in competition to go further.

“Sinusubukuan ko, nahihilo ako sa bigat. Pero kinakaya ko,” said the 17-year-old Cyrinne, an 11th grader from Angono National High School.

Cyrinne’s effort of 71 kgs in the clean and jerk was higher than her usual 70 kgs and this contributed to her record showing.

In the last five years that Cyrinne has been competing, she would usually lift between 65 to 70 kgs in the clean and jerk.

Her closest rival Janelle Pagaran of Quezon took the silver with her tally of 100 kgs.

Cyrinne is hopeful that she will be able to join her sister Lovely in international meets. But for now, she needs to strengthen herself and gain more experience with her lifts with the help of Agosto.

Cyrinne was encouraged to go into weightlifting by her sister.

Many years ago, Lovely Inan, who was doing  scavenging activities when she was 10, passed by the house and gym of Agosto’s Pep Project Weightlifting.

Through Agosto’s inspiration, Lovely started lifting weights and was soon dominating the Batang Pinoy events, before making it to the national team in 2021. She then competed in a number of international tournaments, including the world youth.

Agosto’s weightlifting work in Angono is one of two notable ventures in the sport in the Province of Rizal.

And it has provided the Province of Rizal five of the seven golds in the Batang Pinoy.

The camp of Julius Naranjo and Hidilyn Diaz, who have their own program in Jala Jala, earned two golds through Matthew Diazl and Renzo Memoracion.
