Dallas star guard Kyrie Irving has a right heel contusion, but escaped worse injury when teammate Dwight Powell fell hard on his outstretched foot in the Mavericks’ NBA win in Portland.

A statement posted by the team on the X social media platform on Saturday said an MRI on Saturday revealed the injury, which saw Irving exit Friday’s game in Portland in the second quarter.

Irving was down on the court after a foul when Powell landed hard on his foot, smashing it into the court surface.

Irving eventually was able to stand and take his free throws before hobbling to the locker room.

“Irving has returned to Dallas to begin treatment, and there is no timetable for his return at this time,” said the statement from the Mavs, who play the Grizzlies in Memphis on Monday.

Irving is averaging 23.0 points and 5.2 assists per game this season, but was already dealing with discomfort in his right foot and has missed four games.

Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said Irving remained at the arena in Portland until the game was over and was in “great spirits.”

“When we all got to the locker room and saw on social media how it looked, the pictures, obviously it didn’t look too good, but hopefully we have him back soon,” Kidd said Friday night.
