SERVING SOME VISUALS. Singer and actress Maris Racal dons a modern Filipiniana in ‘Ate Sandali’ music video. The song debuted at the top of iTunes charts hours after it was released.

Released on June 23, the single was originally composed by the artist, while the music video had Rico Blanco as one of the producers.

According to the 23-year-old actress, the song was primarily addressed to people who have fallen in love with the same person who does not show enough affection like the way they did before.

Maris admittedly stated in her Twitter account that she once experienced that kind of scenario but she has learned from her mistakes and said “wrote this one for my marupok self… but I don’t know her anymore.”

Other than the meaning of the song, the singer has presented Filipino culture in her music video in an aesthetic way.

Ensembles, such as modern Filipiana with patterns used in the traditional tribe garments, were shown in the artists’ outfits during the music video.

Maris also creatively used fans or commonly known as pamaypay as her background which is proudly made in the Philippines.

In addition, the singer also included some words that are used as a native language in the country such as “adarit” which means woman chaser.

With this, the audience applauded these Filipino portrayals in her music video as this could promote the beauty of the country’s culture.

Other than serving local visuals, Maris also included members from the LGBTQIA+ community as the choreographer, and two dancers who accompanied her during the music video were confirmed to be part of the said community.

Choreographer Joe Abuda stated in her Twitter account that their involvement in the music video was an achievement.
