K-Pop girl group UNIS has been generating buzz following their recent cover of BINI’s smash hit “Pantropiko.” Elisia, a member of UNIS, revealed a fun fact behind the cover during a fancall event for their “WE UNIS” offline/video call fan signing event.
Filipina K-Pop idol Elisia shared her initial reaction upon learning she would be singing BINI’s hit song with fellow Filipina member Gehlee and the group’s maknae (youngest member), Seowoon.
“Alam mo nung na-receive namin na kailangan naming kumanta ng ‘Pantropiko,’ as in me and Ate Gehlee, we were like so happy nung nalaman namin na kakantahin namin ‘yun,” Elisia said during the call. (“You know, when we received the news that we had to sing ‘Pantropiko,’ me and Ate Gehlee, we were so happy when we found out we were going to sing that.”)
“Pantropiko” was one of five songs UNIS covered in a video posted on the official 1theK Originals YouTube channel. The video has gained significant traction since it was uploaded on April 5. As of this writing, the video has over 956,000 views and holds the fourth spot on the platform’s trending videos in the Philippines.
BINI acknowledged the girl group’s cover on their social media pages when it was first released.
“When the superwoman, #UNIS, meets the music of the tropical girls, BINI! Oh shux! Expect the unexpected cover! Thank you @UNIS_offcl for spreading the tropical love!,” the girl group said in their post.
BINI, composed of Aiah, Mikha, Sheena, Gwen, Colet, Stacey, Maloi, and Jhoanna, rose to fame with their energetic pop songs like “Pantropiko” and “Salamin, Salamin.” These hits are part of their recently released EP, “Talaarawan.”
Their first solo concert, “BINIverse,” slated for June 28 at the New Frontier Theater, sold out within two hours. This high demand prompted fans to request a second day and a bigger venue. BINI later announced a second date for the concert, with tickets going on sale on April 9.
